Week 2

After getting our measurments, we spent some time learning from Stefani how a 3D printer works. We learned about layers and we learned that the printer worked a little like a hot glue gun, how it melts the glue stick and extrudes it out. But, the 3D printer is very smart and can be as precise as a pin head in where it extrudes. Our 3D printer is a Printrbot Simple Metal and it uses PLA filament, which is made with corn!

We learned about how 3D printing can be used in lots of areas of the world. The most awesome is that there are 3D printers that can take human tissue and print a kidney! There are actually some people walking around living with a 3D printed kidney that saved their life!

Our favorite part of this week was our walk to the Community Center again and we got to go out for ice cream at Zips on the way!
